Make the Switch!

UNI students enrolled prior to fall 2022 have the opportunity to switch general education programs from the Liberal Arts Core (LAC) to the new Foundational Inquiry (UNIFI). The decision to switch will be entirely yours, based on which LAC requirements you have already fulfilled and your academic major. Our priority is for you to choose the general education program that is the best option for you. 

How do you make the switch? Check out the below guidelines to get started and see if switching is right for you!​

UNIFI | General Education

Step 1: Contact an Advisor

The Office of Academic Advising (ITTC 007) can assist students Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on a drop-in basis. An advisor can help you to review your course history and determine how many credits you have remaining if you switch to UNIFI.

  • College of Business students:
    Speak with a College of Business advisor! We will be doing Drop-Ins from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. starting on March 7. Stop by the front desk of the Curris Business Building, Room 5, or hop on the Zoom link!
     
  • Elementary Education and Early Childhood students:
    The College of Education Advising and Teacher Education Success (CATS) Office (Schindler 151) will offer drop-in advising the week of February 28. Workshops will be held for students in their first year at UNI the week of March 7. Check your email for days and times. If you want to set up an individual meeting, please email your advisor or stop by the CATS Office.

Step 2: If you decide YOU WOULD like to change from LAC to the UNIFI general education program: 

You Can: 

Fill out a Declaration of Curriculum form and submit to the Office of the Registrar (Gilchrist 115 or registrar@uni.edu). 

Or, You Can:

Email registrar@uni.edu from your UNI email address and ask to be moved to the UNIFI general education program.
