General Education Requirements

A pathway to build your skills, connect the dots and achieve your potential.

UNI has set out to redefine the general education experience. Through years of work, careful workforce research and deep conversations, we have designed a general education experience that works hard for our students. Each part of the program sets you up for success in your next steps. Efficient and distinct, the program consists of 37 credit hours, and is designed to get our students ready for the future through a foundation of employable skills, critical thinking abilities and well-rounded credentials to put on your resume.

Part 1: Engage and Build Skills

Starting out Right

It's important for students to develop the necessary skills to set them on the right path to achieve their dreams. Broadly, employers seek out these foundational skills in all their employees, and with UNIFI, this skill development is built right into your college experience.

The first part of your general education journey is to build and engage. These core courses serve to set you in the right direction for your educational goals.

Growing Through Knowledge

As you progress in your time at UNI, it will become important to understand the world through an increasingly complex lens. From cultural and economic differences, to interpreting both art and scientific data, learning what makes the world tick is integral to the future. In the discovery level of UNIFI, you will be guided through various ways of understanding the world around us and our place in it.

Part 3: Making Connections

Connecting With New Perspectives

There is no better way to complete UNIFI than by capping your general education experience with a credential to put on your resume. Working on specific themes from a variety of perspectives and disciplines gives students a broad understanding of particular topics. Though not a requirement of the program, this credentialing will support students as they build their resumes through their experiences at UNI — offering them a leg up in whatever field they enter after graduation.
